Two more games are in the pipeline

The whole economy is passing through a period of recession and a lot of companies are afraid to reveal new things or products, because people will largely go for the things they are accustomed to and know what they will get from them. Such is the case with titles, as sequels and new versions of historic IPs are always preferred by a lot of gamers to new ones.

Dead Space is a prime example, it was a brand new IP, created by Visceral Games, former EA Redwood Shores, which was launched by EA in the middle of the holiday season, between titles like Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, or Fallout 3. Even though it managed to move 1.4 million units, it could have done much more if it was launched in another time frame.

Now, the team at Visceral Games has talked once more about new projects, and has revealed that, even though it will continue to develop new IPs, franchises like Dead Space will also occupy the time of a large number of employees.

“I'd like to think Dead Space and Dante's Inferno end up becoming major franchises that we could do every couple of years, like we're doing with Dead Space: Extraction. We've got a couple of new ideas we're tossing around, and they're new IPs. But I think if the right license came along – the right movie, the right book or whatever – we'd do that as well,” Glen Schofield, the manager of the studio, said. “Making new IPs is expensive, and at some point, you're going to fail, so we're not just going to be The New IP House.”

Schofield has exemplified his statement with Capcom, which is a company that both focuses on franchises, like Street Fighter or Resident Evil, and also spends time creating new IPs that have franchise potential, like Dead Rising or Lost Planet, which will see brand new iterations at the end of the year.

Hopefully, the team at Visceral Games will continue its hard work and deliver more and more new projects, which will entertain us in the future.
