Capcom Japan is cautious

The swine flu is all over the news, affecting quite a lot of countries and leaving them quarantined. But, even though the E3 conference is still taking place, as its organizer, the ESA, isn't afraid of it, it seems that developers and publishers are.

Capcom has recently issued a statement, through the voice of its Senior Director of Communications and Community, Chris Kramer, that the Japanese branch won't be appearing at E3 this year, due to the recent epidemic that has gravely affected the Osaka area, where Capcom has its central headquarters.

“Our Capcom guys are not coming to E3 because of the Japanese government restrictions,” Kramer said. “The company is taking the advisory very seriously.” His statements are confirmed by the fact that the Executive Producer of Dead Rising 2, Keiji Inafune, has recently canceled his appearance at the Nordic Game Conference in Sweden.

This, of course, has sparked some worries from Dead Rising fans, who expected to have a playable demo of it on the show floor. Sadly, the fact that the team won't appear has also affected the development of the game. “Dead Rising 2 is the only game we won't be able to showcase at E3, because it's at an early stage of development and the team is not comfortable having anyone else demo the code,” Kramer revealed.

So, it seems that, while the conference laughs in the face of the disease, companies are taking a more serious approach and prefer being safe and waiting until the outbreak disappears and we all can resume our daily lives. Hopefully, though, it won't affect the development of the game very much and we will be able to kill zombies soon enough.
