The zombie game will not let you play as the antagonist of the story

Deep Silver and Techland have confirmed that their surprisingly popular Dead Island zombie game will receive a new piece of downloadable content called Ryder White, which delivers a new single-player adventure.

Dead Island didn’t have the best of launches last year, with lots of bugs and issues plaguing the zombie shooter. Despite this, the game sold very well, with Deep Silver confirming that over 3 million copies were shipped after the holiday season.

Now, the game’s developer, Techland wants to expand the single-player adventures from Dead Island through a new downloadable content pack called Ryder White that focuses, you guessed it, on the main antagonist of the game, Ryder White.

The DLC will act as a prequel to the events in the regular campaign, showing Ryder’s motivations and portraying him not just as a bad guy but also as a loving father, according to Deep Silver.

“This DLC offers a unique new perspective into the incidents in the main story of Dead Island: This time the player will get the chance to play as Ryder White, the antagonist of the main game; learn more about his motivations and why, from his point of view, he did what he had to do. This fresh take on the Dead Island story shows Ryder White both as a military man and a loving husband,” the company said.

Ryder White will be the playable character and the DLC is set to bring “several hours of story content with twists and turns that will shed new light on the game’s happenings.”

What’s more, two new blueprints and weapons will be added to the already impressive arsenal that’s a part of Dead Island.

The Ryder White DLC will be out on February 1 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 30 platforms. It will cost either $9.99 (€9.99) or 800 MS Points.
