Dead Island, the first person, role playing zombie shooter, has shipped over 3 million units since its release back in September, with publisher Deep Silver confirming that the title has had a great holiday season in which plenty of new units were sold.

Dead Island impressed originally with its touching trailer, but once the game was actually released, things were a bit controversial, especially since its developer, Techland, released a faulty version for North American PC gamers, while the console editions had other sort of problems.

Still, after many patches and updates, the game became quite popular, and now Deep Silver’s manager of Marketing & PR, Aubrey Norris, confirms this, via Game Informer, by saying that, “Dead Island has sold very, very well over the holiday season and we are thrilled that it has sustained a robust level of sell-through since launch in September.”

While the publisher says that more than 3 million units were shipped, it didn’t actually say how many of them were actually sold to customers. Still, considering it was a brand new IP, Dead Island has become quite successful.
