The Dawn of War series from developer Relic and from publisher THQ has been one of the more successful strategy series of the last few years and it seems that with the team already working on the third game in the series there are plenty of ideas about how its level of success can be maintained.

Speaking to Eurogamer, James McDermott, who is a marketing manager working at Relic, has stated, “Looking at what we had real success with with Dawn of War II – Retribution, with the DLC, and with customisation and building their armies and collecting being a big part of what 40k fans really love, we want to make that a big part of DOW3.”

It seems that Dawn of War III will have bigger armies, but that the player will also be able to better customize their composition and the roles that the various units play during battle.

It appears that the video game based on the well-known Games Workshop universe is coming even closer to the customization that can be achieved in the table top version.

The team also seems to be thinking of how a measure of base building can be included in the game.

McDermott has added, “We brought some base building back with Retribution. With DOW3, because it's going to be a new version, we're looking at the game as a whole, and we're really upping the intensity.”

We know that THQ is aiming to launch Dawn of War III during the second half of 2012 or in the first months of 2013 and Danny Bilson, an executive at the company, has suggested that the game might have some MMO elements included.

We already know that Relic is planning to have a big announcement at the Gamescom event in August, but the developer has not said whether it is linked to Dawn of War or to its other strategy franchise, Company of Heroes.
