One of the movies to keep an eye out for in 2014 is the David Fincher-directed thriller “Gone Girl,” based on the 2012 best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn, who also penned the script. However, even if you read the book, you’re still in for a major surprise.

The full interview with the director, the writer and leading man Ben Affleck for Entertainment Weekly has been released online, and the bomb comes from Fincher himself: the film won’t have the same ending as the book.

“Ben [Affleck] was so shocked by it. He would say, ‘This is a whole new third act! She literally threw that third act out and started from scratch’,” says the director.

Again, if you read the book, you know why this tidbit is so important: “Gone Girl” plays with appearances and includes several major twists that completely turn the tables on what the reader thought they’d made from the story.

Besides Affleck, the film also stars Rosamund Pike as his love interest, his loving wife of 5 years, Amazing Amy, Emily Ratajkowski as Affleck’s secret and naïve young mistress, and Neil Patrick Harris as Amy’s former and totally creepy lover.

“Gone Girl” is scheduled for release in October.
