No follow up to Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain was one of the big video game releases of 2010. The game arrived exclusively on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and was set to show off how action and movie like atmosphere can be seamlessly blended through the use of real life actors and a new control system for player. The game was well received by critics and Quantic Dream is keen on capitalizing on the interest Heavy Rain has generated in their next two projects.

David Cage, who is the leader of Quantic Dream, told the Examiner in an interview that “After Heavy Rain, we have some credibility in experimenting with new IPs and new concepts. We are not going to play it safe from now. We are going to use this credibility to continue to take risks, give ourselves exciting challenges and try to invent new ways of playing.”

Initial reports talked about the possibility of the Quantic Dream team developing some downloadable content chapters for Heavy Rain but at the moment those have been shelved. The video game is still set to deliver full support for the PlayStation Move motion tracking system when it launches in the fall but other than that the development studio is interesting in creating two titles based on new intellectual properties. David Cage justified this choice by saying, “I believe that this is what Quantic Dream’s fans expect us to do. It is also what keeps me passionate about what we are doing.”

Quantic Dream is well known for their attempts to explore the limits of video games as the audience understands them. Feeling and emotional impact are more important to the team that delivering over the top action or complex gunplay. It's likely that their next projects, whatever they are, will also come exclusively to the PlayStation 3 and will use cutting edge technology to push the medium forward.
