Just one day after confirming that he and Courteney Cox were separated in the hope that some time apart might solve marriage problems, David Arquette is already talking about what went wrong in their relationship.

The actor phoned in on Howard Stern a few hours ago to talk about the shocking announcement of what could be the end of his marriage – and took all of the blame upon himself.

According to David (story via People), he and Courteney had not been a couple for 4 months before the split, since she refused to make love to him anymore.

Not that he blames her or anything: David calls Courteney his best “friend,” but says that she simply grew tired of being a mother to him all the time because he refused to grow up.

And Courteney’s way of doing things means that she’s either 100 percent in it or not at all, with the latter seeming to be the case here.

“She’s in a place of wanting to be real and emotional. She’s an emotional being. She’s an amazing woman. If it doesn’t feel right, she doesn’t feel like bonding in that way,” David told Stern on radio.

Though 39, Arquette has serious issues with being a grownup and he’s the first to admit that, especially since this was the main cause of the split.

“She says that to me: ‘I don’t wanna be your mother anymore.’ I appreciated that. I respected that. I’ve been going to therapy. I’m trying to grow up,” the actor explains.

Despite the things that have pushed them apart – and which will hopefully be solved in due time so that they can get back together – the two remain the best of friends.

“She’s the greatest woman I’ve ever met… Now, yes, she’s got her issues. She tries to take on everybody’s problem,” Arquette says.

“She tries to be the mother to everyone – that’s why she doesn’t want to be the mother to me anymore,” he adds.

In the same interview with Stern, Arquette also talked about breaking the news of the separation to his and Courteney’s 6-year-old daughter Coco and about how he told her it was a “separation” and not a “divorce.”
