A montage of footage from the film “The Runaways”

One of the hottest and most appreciated movies at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was “The Runaways,” a biopic of the band of the same name, the first all-girl rock band in history. Starring Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart, the film will come with a score composed of original tracks and covers by the two stars, one of these being “Cherry Bomb,” for which a video has just been released.

As expected, the video is made of a montage of footage from the film and is aimed to get fans even more excited about the upcoming release of the movie (out in the US on March 19). Most of it shows Dakota as Cherie Currie, singing on a stage flooded in red light while wearing almost nothing but a corset and some high heels. However, other shots from the film are also included, so fans also get to see some bits of Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and the chemistry the two have in front of the camera.

“We’ve seen the trailer, we’ve heard the music, and now we see the Runaways music video, in which a bustier-clad, garter-belt-strapped, 16-year-old Dakota Fanning snarls out her best Cherie Currie over a montage of movie scenes,” the New York Mag writes of the brand new video. The publication then goes on to say that, while the actress seems perfectly at ease with the role, which is extremely different from anything else she’s done before, some of the fans who know her ever since she was little might find it a bit troubling.

“While she doesn’t seem uncomfortable in her skin, exactly, there’s a vulnerability to her red-lit motions toward brazenness – especially during the ‘Hello, Dad; hello, Mom’ parts – that gives us a pang of parental panic. A pang of ‘Hannah Dakota Fanning! Put on some clothes! Someone out there could see you!’ After which we’d give her a long lecture about the importance keeping the blinds down. The red Lycra tights at 1:00 are pretty rad, though,” the same publication says.

“Cherry Bomb” is not the only track that features vocals from the stars in the film, as we also reported a short while back, when the tracklisting for the score was announced. The album includes 2 tracks sang by Dakota and 2 other on which she duets with Kristen Stewart. The video for “Cherry Bomb” is below. Enjoy.
