Verizon Wireless announced its subscribers owning a Motorola DROID device that they would receive a new software update soon. The update includes new enhancements, as well as cosmetic changes.

The Android version FRG83D for Motorola DROID was rolled out by the carrier last week to several members of the Motorola Feedback Network program, as part of the testing period.

Members of the above-mentioned program have received the following email message prior to receiving the update:

Over the next 24 hours, barring last-minute changes, we will begin to distribute the latest Droid software to a select group of owners, and you should expect to be among them. As a Motorola Feedback Network member, you are key to this test.”

“Some of the owners are chosen at random and as a result, we won’t get feedback from them. But we’re counting on you and other members to provide us with a quick and accurate assessment of this update. After this pre-launch release, we’ll observe for a few days to make sure all is well, before releasing to all owners.”

The changes the Android FRG83D software update brings include support for Exchange 2010, as well as several fixes and a “new Gmail user interface”.

The full changelog of the update is detailed below:

Improvements:

- Updated Twitter application with new authentication support; - Updated Amazon widget; - Updated News&Weather widget; - Improvements to Exchange ActiveSync: Handles server-side inactivity timeouts of 34 minutes or greater, Continues to sync emails after a policy refresh, Support for Exchange 2010 connections.

Enhancements:

- Added new Gmail user interface.

It is unclear when exactly the carrier intends to start distributing the software update, but the changelog has already been published on Verizon's website.
