After making the headlines in the last few days, DROID Charge is now up for orders from Amazon Wireless.

However, the device is listed as backordered, which means that customers will have to wait several days before getting the smartphone.

Backordered usually means that an item is not in stock, although it's already being produced.

The online retailer is selling the DROID Charge for $249.99, which is $50 cheaper than Verizon's price tag. Unfortunately, Amazon states that the device ships in 8 to 9 days.

Given the fact that DROID Charge is expected to be launched via Verizon sometime this week, it will be interesting to see if Amazon will drop the 'backordered' status of the device.

Opposed to what the name may suggest, DROID Charge is manufactured by Samsung, not Motorola.

The device was introduced back in January during the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show, as Samsung Stealth.

The phone comes with full support for Verizon's 4G LTE network and features a large 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, which are two of the most appealing features of the DROID Charge.

Furthermore, the smartphone is powered by a single-core 1GHz Hummingbird processor, which may be one of the downsides of the DROID Charge taking into consideration its rather high price.

Still, users will be able to take advantage of the phone's superior 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, face and smile detection and video recording capabilities.

In addition, the 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera seems to be perfect for users who are often using the video-call functionality.

Equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, the DROID Charge allows users to connect up to five other Wi-Fi devices to their phone thanks to the Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

Samsung DROID Charge is expected to be retailed by authorizes sellers such as Walmart, Best Buy and Costco, as soon as Verizon is giving it the green light.
