Motorola's DROID 2 Global smartphone was slated for a November 11th launch at Verizon Wireless, but customers could purchase the device two days earlier. Apparently the carrier decided to drop the expensive marketing campaign that usually accompanies each of the Droid smartphones that gets into its portfolio.

The DROID 2 Global made its way on the market following the usual pattern, rumored specs, leaked pictures, but it didn't receive any official announcement from either the carrier or manufacturer.

It looks like Verizon changed its plans and decided to speed up the selling process by confirming the device on its official Facebook account:

“Now make calls, text, email and browse the web in more than 220 countries with Droid 2 Global. Get it now for $199.99. $299.99 2yr price less $100 mail-in rebate debit card. New 2yr activation and data pack required.”

The DROID 2 Global is an upgraded version of the standard DROID 2, as it packs a TI OMAP 1.2GHz CPU compared with the original's 1GHz processor.

The DROID 2 Global prides itself with quad-band GSM capabilities, enabling users to make and receive calls and check their emails from over 200 countries. Its GSM capabilities are available in addition to All–Digital, 800/1900, CDMA EVDO rev.A compatibility.

The device comes with a wide range of services such as: 3G Mobile Hotspot with support for up to 5 devices, Visual Voice Mail capable, VZ Navigator via the Android Market, Skype Mobile, NFL Mobile via Android Market, My Verizon capable, V CAST Media Manager capable, VZW Backup Assistant, City ID and Motorola Over the Air Software Updates.

Motorola DROID 2 Global runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform and packs a full slide–out QWERTY keyboard.

The device integrates the full suite of Google apps including Google Maps with Street View, transit and Wikipedia information, GTalk with Presence, Gmail, YouTube, Latitude and Google Calendar.

Other key features of the smarpthone include: 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 854 x 480 pixels resolution, 5.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, face detection and image stabilization, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB card included), WiFi 802.11 b/g/n.
