Video game developer Valve says that more than 1 million people have watched the live streamed matches for The International, the DOTA 2 tournament that ran during the previous weekend.

The figure was reached combining the number of fans that used Twitch, the Gamefly service and the internal Valve stream.

CVG says that probably even more people saw matches of DOTA 2 because a number of other international services were also streaming them.

The Season 2 finals for League of Legends, another title in the same genre, have managed to set a record by getting 1.1 million concurrent viewers.

The International DOTA 2 tournament was won by the Alliance team from Sweden, which took home a prize of more than 1.4 million dollars (980 million Euro).

Fans of the game funded part of the prize pool by buying the Compendium, which also gave them access to a number of unique items.
