The development team at DICE working on the next-generation Frostbite 3 game engine says that the technology cannot be used on the Wii U home console from Nintendo because of problems with its overall performance.

Johan Andersson, the Frostbite technical director, writes on Twitter that, “FB3 has never been running on WiiU. We did some tests with not too promising results with FB2 & chose not to go down that path.”

When the Wii U was announced, Nintendo talked about delivering the hardware power required to bring first-person shooter and action titles to its platform.

Frostbite 3 is designed to take advantage of the features of the next generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

The technology will be used for a slate of new Electronic Arts titles, including new Star Wars video games.
