Sony Online Entertainment has announced that its superhero MMO DC Universe Online, in development for quite some time, will be launching concomitantly on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and on the PC on November 2. The company has also said that a one-month subscription for the game will cost 14.99 dollars and that the title will allow players to acquire some items using micro transactions. It's not clear how they will feature in the game and what kind of advantage can be gained by buying items from the shop.

DC Universe Online uses the well-known superheroes of the comic book company in order to create a complex universe where players can design their own superpowered persona and then go out on the streets and become either an enforcer of good and justice or an evil doer who aims to bring chaos and rule through sheer force.

Sony will not allow players to actually become Superman and Batman but promises that all the heroes fans know will be present in the world and interact in a complex way with those who play the MMO.

The game will have the standard structure of a MMO, with experience leading to level gains and the world opening up gradually as the player character gets more powerful. The Japanese giant aims to deliver more player-generated quests and promises the entire game world will be very different depending on the side they choose.

With both the PC and the PlayStation 3 getting DC Universe Online, initial reports talked about cross-platform play, which would be used by the developers as a way to create a more populated game world generating more engagement for the gamer. Since then, Sony has said that technical issues might get in the way of cross-platform play and they will probably be resolved as the November launch date draws near.
