Introduced this autumn, the Boxee Box seems to do quite well for itself as D-Link has stated that its sales performance has been much better than originally expected, sales being frequently in excess of stock volumes, leading the company to believe that 100,000 units will be shipped in 2011.

Launched in Europe, the US and now in Middle East and Africa, the Boxee was made available in September of this year and soon managed to gain market acceptance thanks to its comprehensive on-demand content library and powerful feature set.

For those of you that don't remember the initial announcement, the Boxee Box is build around an Intel CE4110 system-on-a-chip hardware platform and can be used in order to play media files from the home network or over the Internet.

The media player is also capable of playing back Full HD content and can stream digital content from providers such as Vudu, Pandora and MLB TV, to name just a few.

In addition, Boxee can access social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter, the two video streaming big dogs, Hulu and Netflix, also being reported to come to D-Link's streamer (some sources even state Netflix should be available by year's end).

In the US, the Boxee Box is available for purchase from Amazon, the IPTV STB following to arrive at Best Buy at the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011, increasing its retail footprint significantly.

Furthermore, D-Link has just announced that the Boxee Box will become available in the Middle East and North Africa region in January 2011, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other Asia Pacific countries also receiving it sometime in 2011.

As a result, the company expects its shipments to grow even more in 2011, DigiTimes reporting that D-Link plans to sell 100,000 Boxee Boxes in the upcoming year.
