RIM might not know it, but its BlackBerry smartphones make excellent solutions for criminals in British Columbia. The devices manage to bring such a high security level that its owner can be almost sure that nobody will have access on his personal files, or on the dirty business that he is
handling.

The BlackBerry server was created with corporate data security in mind. This was supposed to bring the best services to business people that make up most of the BlackBerry users. Only companies such as Telus, CIBC could afford this system but now we can speak of a wider range and this makes them accessible to any individuals to set-up a personal network.

Not all criminals use these smartphones to escape the law, as they are prone to be seen especially on those who are involved in a large crime network and need high-end communication and a great amount of information. This means that BlackBerry phones help mostly the big crimes and less often the petty thefts.

Once the police confiscates a criminal's BlackBerry smartphone, it is a real challenge to crack the password and access his personal data without consent. The fact that these devices become more affordable in time could lead to its use in even more crimes, no matter their gravity.

Scott Totzke, RIM's vice-president of global security, told some while ago that its encryption is virtually unbreakable. That means great services for their users and that's just how things should stay. The company should not be blamed for the great job that it is doing with providing excellent services.

In fact, this could also turn out as being great publicity for BlackBerry handsets, as it only proves their great security level quality. Still, from now on, a guy in a suit owning such a mobile phone could turn out to be either a corporate official, or the head of the Mafia.
