We already reported about a week ago on Cricket’s plan to launch a new messaging phone, the Samsung Comment 2. Today, the carrier added the feature-phone to its portfolio, so customers can now purchase it for only $89.99 USD (70 EUR) outright.

The Comment 2 can be paired with one of the two Cricket’s monthly service plans, such as the $35 monthly Cricket Basic rate plan with unlimited talk and text, and the $45 Cricket Value rate monthly plan that offers unlimited talk, text, and mobile web.

On a side note, Samsung Comment 2 is already available in the US as Samsung Freeform 4 from US Cellular.

Unfortunately, the Samsung Comment II does nothing to improve on its predecessor, so expect this one to come with similar features.

Although unimpressive for those looking for smartphones, Samsung Comment II might be the perfect choice for customers who prefer cheap classic feature-phones.

According to Samsung, “with the Samsung Comment 2, you’re free to customize, modify, and make it your own. Choose your menu style, pick a wallpaper and you have your choice of a wide selection of fun and functional apps and games.”

Aside from the low price, the phone’s main selling point is the full QWERTY keyboard, allowing for blazing fast typing. Samsung Comment II sports a small 2.4-inch TFT display that supports 480 x 320 pixels resolution and 262k colors.

Unlike the previous model which comes with 100 MB storage, the Comment 2 packs 256MB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The feature-phone also comes with a mediocre 2-megapixel rear camera, which is unexpected improvement from the Comment’s 1.3-megapixel photo snapper.

Samsung Comment 2 is equipped with a single-core processor clocked at 480 MHz and offers support for Bluetooth and microUSB connectivity.

Last but not least, the Comment 2 comes pre-loaded with several Cricket apps and services, including MyBackup, MyHomeScreen, Cricket Navigator, Cricket 411, and Cricket Storefront.
