Motorola announced it has contracts valuing 394 million dollars with the largest mobile phone operator in China, China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC). The contracts, which have the purpose of expanding CMCC's GSM network, were signed in the first half of the current year and highlight Motorola's continuing leadership in delivering top-quality telecommunications solutions.

Ruey-Bin Kao, president of Motorola China, said: "Today's announcement clearly illustrates Motorola's continued success in the GSM market and its position as one of the leading equipment and services suppliers in China. Besides value added services, Motorola also delivered GSM infrastructure equipment like Horizon II base stations to China Mobile, following the contracts. The new equipment and the network expansion will help China Mobile to increase its subscriber base as well as better handle its network in order to provide engaging high-quality services to its customers, like multimedia functionality. CMCC's networks were successfully expanded across 16 provinces and municipalities in China, including Beijing, Zhe Jiang, Hunan, Tianjin, Guangdong, Si Chuan, Shan Xi, Anhui, Yun Nan, Jilin, Fu Jian, Guizhou, Liaoning, Jiang Xi, Hu Bei and Inner Mongolia.

The executive vice president of China Mobile, Li Yue, said: "As China Mobile strives to create quality of excellence, Motorola, with its advanced technologies and services, has been involved in building high-performance and cost efficient infrastructure networks for CMCC. We look forward to continued cooperation with Motorola in the future." Mr. Li Yue also underlined Motorola's quick response time in expanding the China Mobile networks as well as the reliability and quality of Motorola's services and solutions.

China Mobile has collaborated with Motorola for over 20 years and, as of April 2007, the Chinese operator has more than 330 million wireless subscribers.
