3D, though it flourished, faced with much controversy over the past year, more than it did when it was a minor niche, but it has finally won over consumers, according to the latest research on the subject.

If one were to ask anyone on the street what they thought of 3D TVs, chances are they would get a very favorable response.

During Disney's D23 expo in Anaheim, last month, Panasonic had independent research firm Frank N. Magid conduct a survey on the matter.

The result was that 71% of all those questioned had the opinion that 3D is much better or “dramatically better.”

Things got even more interesting when the fact came in that 99% of all surveyed said that 3D TV was at least “somewhat” better than 2D TV.

Needless to say, this was quite a good cause for Panasonic to feel glee, especially when factoring in the variety of superlatives used to describe 3D (“I wish I had this at home”, “Fabulous:”, etc.).

“We've always said that, just as with HDTV, once consumers experience 3D TV, they will want it,” said Eisuke Tsuyuzaki, Panasonic Corporation of North America's Chief Technology Officer. “This survey proves it. We couldn't be happier with the results."

Some may remember that HDTV had a rather slow start at first, so there were, understandably, people who thought 3D TV would go through something similar.

It turns out that 3D is up to a much faster start, with more than one full-time 3D channel already available on cable and satellite, just one year after 3D itself came into its own.

“We're very pleased with the rapid-fire development of 3D TV. Panasonic has just completed the second year of its sponsorship of CBS Sports' expanded 3D broadcasts of the US Open Tennis Championships, a production which garnered an Emmy Award in its first year, and we are now looking forward to next year's 3D production of the London Olympic Games,” Tsuyuzaki added.

“With these and many other exciting 3D events and movies ready to amaze and entertain, consumers have every reason to step up to the glorious viewing experience of Full HD 3D television.”
