As the status of Gamu Nhengu and her family in the UK remains uncertain while attorneys are looking into it, judge Cheryl Cole says she doesn’t regret giving her the boot on X Factor.

Her decision has sparked lots of interest and even more outrage with fans of the show, many of whom were rooting for Gamu because she’d already proven what a beautiful and powerful voice she had.

At the judges’ house stage of the competition, Gamu performed wonderfully – but was still turned down and thus, eliminated from the show.

Because two other contestants (Cher and Katie, to be more accurate) had problems with their songs (for various reasons), fans believe Cheryl turned Gamu down for something that wasn’t even up to her.

In other words, fans believe that she was either booted for not being white or because Cheryl favors the other two, Cher in particular.

Speaking for the first time since the scandal broke, Cheryl says she stands by her decision and believes it was made for all the right reasons, meaning, based on the “x factor” and talent.

“The three girls I have chosen to take through to the live shows were chosen by me and Will [rapper Will.i.am] and the final choice was, and always is, my decision,” Cole says in a statement to the Daily Mail.

Moreover, amidst claims that she was pressured into giving Gamu the boot because of her uncertain immigration status, Cheryl says that’s not true.

As usual, reports have gotten it all wrong because she for one didn’t even know Gamu’s situation at the time she made the call.

“I was not aware of Gamu’s situation outside of the competition and I am incredibly sad for both her and her family,” the star says.

Also speaking on the controversy is the one who’s reportedly getting preferential treatment from Cheryl, X Factor hopeful Cher Lloyd.

“At judge’s houses it wasn’t the pressure that was affecting me it was frustration. I knew I could smash that song. Off stage I am very nervous but as soon I as I get on stage then it is different. I will be fine,” she said the other day.

Cher stresses she deserves to be on the show and will not drop out because she can’t cope. Moreover, she will prove all those skeptics wrongs when she performs live tonight.
