British singer, television personality and judge on the new, US-made X Factor Cheryl Cole is trading up: she broke up from DWTS pro Derek Hough because she wants to find someone more famous to date, a new report suggest.
At the time when Cheryl was struggling to come to terms with her husband’s many extramarital affairs, Derek
stood by her and reportedly helped her through the pain.
Shortly after the divorce proceedings were initiated, word got out that the two friends had actually become a bit more than that, taking their relationship
to the next level.
Now, Cheryl has broken free, a new report in the print edition of Star magazine (story via
here) suggests. And Derek is broken-hearted.
“DWTS pro Derek Hough will have to find a new partner. His girlfrind Cheryl Cole has dumped him to focus on her sizzling career – and to maybe trade up to a more famous beau, an insider tells Star,” the mag writes.
The decision to put an end to the romance – and their friendship as well, presumably – came shortly after Cheryl was named judge on Cowell’s X Factor show in the US and it took Derek completely by surprise.
He probably expected their relationship to flourish now that they no longer needed to do the long-distance thing anymore.
“Cheryl told Derek it was over. Breaking up with him was particularly cruel because he stood by her through her divorce last year and her nasty bout of malaria,” a source familiar with the situation says for Star.
Because of Cheryl’s timing, Derek can’t but feel that he somehow came out the worse from this, because he’s been manipulated and is now being ditched to the curb when he’s no longer needed.
“He can’t help feeling that she
used him to get publicity in Hollywood,” the tipster explains.
“She’s incredibly ambitious – and gorgeous. I wouldn’t be surprised if she winds up with an A-lister, and soon!” says the spy.
