A 22 year-old woman has committed suicide after being scolded by her husband because she used to spend too much time talking on the mobile phone. After the reprimands, she went into her bedroom and hanged herself from the ceiling.

The mobile phone had been a permanent cause for arguments between the two spouses over the years. Smarajit Biswas and his wife, Rupa, had been married for five years, although with no children.

Due to loneliness, homesickness and constantly missing her parents, Rupa resorted to using the mobile phone in order to keep in touch with them. Her husband claims that she did this excessively, as the woman used to talk for long hours on the mobile phone, even while cooking. Such a habit used to annoy the man to a large extent and often caused fights between the two of them.

Not only that, but the husband's family also found Rupa's addiction "offending", as her father-in-law declared. The woman couldn't help it, as she suffered from boredom and terribly missed her parents.

Smarajit broke into rage when he returned home Saturday night only to find her wife busy on the phone again. Moreover, it seemed to him that he overheard a male voice on the phone, which only made matters worse. He started accusing Rupa of spending too much time on the phone.

The woman returned to her bedroom humiliated and then hanged herself from the ceiling fan. As soon as the husband found her like this, he took his wife to the Shantipur hospital for first aid. The woman was still alive at the time, but she died the next morning. It looks now that her feeling of isolation and boredom was considerably greater than anyone had expected and that the cellular was her only escape.
