The Behemoth is fast becoming one of the poster boys for small team videogame development. So far, it has released two games, Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers, which have been appreciated by both critics and gamers (who have bought a lot of copies).

The studio has managed to create a clear niche, with its retro gameplay and bright and colorful artwork. It has recently talked about the third game it would release, which is at the moment unnamed, but in development. The team is referring to it at this point as “Behemoth's Next Game After the Last Next Game”.

The game was shown at the Tokyo International Anime Fair, but the developers are saying that this is not an official reveal, rather a chance to show off some early stage content and getting feedback from players. They showed off a block painting game, which is a sort of block touching free for all, a soccer game, a gold collection game, based around a giant gold fish, and a soul collecting game, which is based on defeating enemies and getting their soul essence.

Even if their first two games were exclusive to the Xbox Live Arcade service, The Behemoth guys are saying that they are now getting development licenses for the PlayStation Network and for WiiWare, which might or might not mean that the game will arrive on those platforms.

The new title is not set to arrive until 2010 but the team behind it has stated that revenue coming from Castle Crashers is enough to tie them over. The game was plagued by initial bugs but now it is very successful.

John Baez, one of the producers, has said that “Castle Crashers seems to have broken every record we could find on XBLA, so its acceptance to the larger console audience is self evident. We have over 700,000 people on leaderboards and the game was only released six months ago! We hope our exciting new game will break Castle's records.”
