John Carmack, the Chief Technical Officer at id Software, has said that Kinect, the motion tracking system launched by Microsoft in early November, is not suited for the main games that the company is creating, like RAGE, but could be used to power smaller titles for the Xbox Live Arcade service.

Talking to Joystiq as part of a bigger interview Carmack stated, “I have an itch to make a Kinect title for Xbox Live.”

Thew developer did not offer any details on what king of game he was thinking about creating, but he said that Kinect, the motion tracking solution for the Xbox 360, could not be used to power “our real games”, because the system is just not suited for experiences which fall into the first person shooter genre.

Carmack initially talked about Kinect at QuakeCon earlier this year, saying that id Software would not use the new technology for the time being, with the company more interested in what the player gets from a game than in how he inputs his actions into the experience.

The big project which id Software is working at the moment is RAGE, the first person shooter which will arrive in the second half of 2011 and will feature complex new shooting and driving mechanics coupled with a post apocalyptic setting.

The game is not interested in offering the choices seen in the Fallout series but in creating interesting situations and powerful enemies that will challenge the player.

The game looks incredible and uses the new id Tech 5 engine, which the developers believe will revolutionize the way gamers look at first person shooters.

Fans of id Software can pick up a stripped down version of RAGE on the iPhone.

id Software is now creating video game under the guiding hand of Bethesda, which acquired the company earlier in the year.
