Capcom Says It's Not Alienating Dead Rising 2 PlayStation 3 Gamers

Capcom, the publisher of the upcoming Dead Rising 2 video game, denies it is alienating PlayStation 3 owners by offering special prequel and epilogue packs exclusive to the Xbox 360 for the soon to be released zombie hack and slash title.

Dead Rising 2, in case you forgot, will soon hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms, in just a few days.

Before that, Xbox 360 owners have already received a special Dead Rising 2: Case Zero downloadable prequel, which tells the story of how the new lead character Chuck Greene managed to reach Fortune City, a Las Vegas-inspired location which is now filled with zombies.

Last week, the Japanese company revealed that it will be releasing a special downloadable epilogue, also exclusive to the Xbox 360, entitled Dead Rising 2: Case West, which will see Chuck Greene team up with the first game's protagonist, Frank West, and battle the hordes of zombies.

As you can imagine, this didn't exactly sit well with PlayStation 3 gamers, which felt they were being mistreated by the Japanese company, after the original Dead Rising was just released for the Xbox 360.

This isn't so, at least according to co-producer Shinsaku Ohara, who revealed in a recent interview that the whole team, led by Keiji Inafune, is sorry PS3 gamers won't enjoy the full Dead Rising universe, but they will be able to get their hands on the full Dead Rising 2 game.

"I think Inafune said that we're sorry that it seems like you're getting a little bit less of the Dead Rising 2 universe, but you'll still be able to enjoy the full game," revealed Ohara. "You'll just miss a little bit of extra. We haven't completely alienated PS3 gamers because Dead Rising 2 is a standalone boxed product."

Ohara continued, saying that the two downloadable titles are a way of Capcom saying thanks to the Xbox 360 fanbase that made Dead Rising such a popular franchise for the Japanese company.

"Dead Rising was our very first Xbox 360 title and Microsoft supported the title all the way," Ohara said. "At the beginning we didn't know that this new IP would be a success, but the fans on the console really assisted in making it into one. So it's like a present, something that we gave back to the original Dead Rising fans."

Dead Rising 2 is scheduled to be launched on September 24 in Europe, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and September 28 in North America. The PC version will debut on that same day.

Well, if you won't support your new potential customers, we won't support you. Go ahead and keep supporting your existing fanbase without thinking of the long term growth. Yay stagnation.

rofl, stagnation? It's better than saying 'here's a dead rising 2 prequel but for new customers only' like so many other companies do. About time someone thanked the people that made dead rising 2 possible

I don't support Capcom anymore. First they screw over the fans that got Resident Evil 5 when it came out with that DLC that came on the disc but we had to pay money to unlock it. Now we have to buy the Gold Edition of RE5 to get PS Move support even though we bought RE5 when it first came out. Why do I need two copies of the same game just for PS Move support?

Now this Dead Rising 2 fiasco. I'll be renting this game. And if I do but it I'll wait a year and buy it used for $10 so Capcom doesn't get my money.

Keep it up Capcom, you're doing great!!!

The original RE 5 did not have the code for Move support.

When doing the GE Sony had already sent out the dev kits so Move support was built into RE 5 GE whilst Move was still in development.

Not hard to work out realy the Original RE 5 would need a Masive pacth for it to support MOVE. Eve Eye Pet pacth is over 2GB for MOVE and that was made with Move support in mind.

So to pacth the original RE 5 would be masive!

So, the other games that have been patched with Move support are also massive patches? I hadn't noticed...

If the Playstation players had been thought of when making the original Dead Rising, they would have given as much support on the development as Xbox players. If Sony isn't given the chance, they should not expect support. The extra games should be for both consoles, as it rewards the Xbox for holding the original, and Playstation for the introduction of Dead Rising 2 to all the players who didn't get chance to play the original without paying £200 for all the stuff for an Xbox.

The problem is though that Capcom's games are so good that you can't stay mad at them. I played through Dead Rising 1 on 360 and loved it, then bought the sequel on PS3. After finding that screen tears were a serious problem on the PS3 version, and then reading about the DLC exclusivity on 360, I repurchased the game on 360, along with Case Zero, and played it as a complete set. No regrets. It just played better.
