Gameplay footage and developer interview on offer

Capcom Japan is 25 years old. Yup, for 25 years they have been making videogames. In my mind, that's a lot of years and a lot of games. And to celebrate their years, Capcom have decided to release a special DVD. The good news is that it features some Resident Evil 5 videos. The bad news is that you can only get it in Japan.

The Weekly Famitsu magazine will carry the DVD on March 28. Apart from the Resident Evil stuff, there is also some footage related to Monster Hunter Portable 2nd Generation and some other games. But the main attraction has to be the Resident Evil 5 stuff. We're talking gameplay footage taken from the newest internal version of the game and a feature-heavy interview with one of the main producers. Sounds like a treat for the Japanese fans of Biohazard 5 (yup, that how they actually call Resident Evil 5 over there).

The game is being produced by series veteran Jun Takeuchi, and the next-generation follow-up to the terrifying series introduces the theme of escape to its core gameplay of survival. The player is cast as Chris Redfield, the former S.T.A.R.S. member, who is now part of the special BSAA unit, and your life is in danger as you strive to complete your most dangerous mission yet in a sweltering desert colony where a new breed of evil has been unleashed. There are hints that something far more sinister than zombies is brewing there and, as usual, you must stop the evil from spreading or die trying. I very much prefer the first option.

Environments will play a bigger factor than ever in the series and a special game mechanic will be used to simulate the transition from darkness to light and the vulnerability the character has while temporally blind. It may just be the first game in the series where light of day might not be the safest place to hide in.
