But don't count it out just yet

Capcom is one of the biggest companies in gaming, especially in its native Japan, being the owner of a lot of profitable and well-known franchises, like Resident Evil or Mega Man. But one of its premium brands is Street Fighter, which is known across the world to people of all ages.

Recently, the game saw its newest installment, Street Fighter IV, become extremely successful, but before it, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, a high-definition revamp of the original title, became very productive, even though it was released on digital distribution platforms like Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network.

The popularity of the release made Capcom reveal that it wasn't done with HD remixes, a fact that was proven when it announced that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 would also appear in a high-definition edition at the end of July.

But the statement made fans of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike wonder if that game would also be getting new graphics and an overhaul of the gameplay mechanics. That's very unlikely, at least according to Capcom's Chris Svennson, who revealed that technical limitations made the task extremely difficult.

“An HD Remix on SF3 would be a challenge in and of itself given the number of frames of animation and effects that would have to be redone, especially in light of what we learned on SSF2THDR,” Svennson said. “As such, the very nature of the project you're suggesting is somewhat unlikely.”

But don't write a new version of the game off just yet, as Svennson quickly added that, “But if it were to happen, I would suspect a retail release would also be unlikely given our current strategy for Remixes.”

So, all we can do for now is hope that the team at Capcom is still busy on upgrading older, but popular, games in order for them to be played on newer platforms.
