The FCC's decision regarding Net Neutrality in the US will affect everyone

Canonical has decided to join the fight in support for net neutrality and it will be a part of the "Internet Slowdown day" event.

If you're not yet aware of this, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) in the United States has to make a very important decision that could allow ISPs to provide paid prioritization to companies, which would hugely increase the monopoly of the corporations.

"If large companies were allowed to pay ISPs to prioritise their traffic, it would be much harder for competing companies to enter the market, effectively giving large corporations a greater monopoly. I believe that internet service providers should conform to common carrier laws where the carrier is required to provide service to the general public without discrimination," says Robin Winslow on Canonical's blog.

The Internet Slowdown has been scheduled for September 10 and the participants will show a banner in support for the campaign. Numerous other companies and websites from all around the world have joined the campaign, including Softpedia, Reddit, Tumblr, and hundreds more.

It's interesting to see how everyone is trying to help, even if it's technically a problem only in the US. The Europeans have repelled this proposition, but the United States is a big enough country so that all the users will feel the effects of such an aggressive policy.
