Canon has just announced the introduction of a new document scanner known as the imageFORMULA DR-M140, which was built in order to be fit the needs of busy office departments and workgroups while also retaining a small form factor.

The DR-M140 features the same U-turn design as the previous imageFORMULA DR-2580C, which enables it to handle A3 documents in folio mode as well as documents that are up to 3m in length.

In addition, the Cannon scanner also comes with a selectable paper path that was specially designed to take thicker documents such as ID cards or credit cards, for example.

As far as productivity is concerned, Canon states that its latest creation can process up to 6,000 scanned documents per day, all while maintaining high productivity levels, up to 40ppm/80ipm in colour.

Other features include, a double feed release (DFR) capability which allows users to conveniently ignore double feeds and continue scanning, a series of image processing features like auto color detection, text orientation, and auto page size detection as well as the ability to skip blank pages.

"The imageFORMULA DR-M140 builds on the success of the popular DR-2580C with an intelligent design and a number of innovative, technological advancements that meet our customers' needs for fast, accurate and reliable scanning,” said Sean Suematsu, European Document Scanning Solutions Director at Canon Europe.

“This compact desktop scanner provides reliable document processing at high-speeds, for mission critical and decentralised scanning in SME's and corporate workgroups.

“Through innovative design, we are providing our customers with an attractive alternative in a booming and busy market," concluded the company's rep.

The imageFORMULA DR-M140 will be available in the UK and Ireland from early November 2011, priced at £879 / €995 including VAT (about $1084 US without taxes).

Canon's new desktop scanner is also shipped together with a software suite featuring direct connectivity to SharePoint.
