Madonna made history with her tomboy fierce look when she launched her music career. To this day, reminiscences of the fashion trend she single-handedly put out there can still be seen with renowned designers and major fashion houses. The latest celebrity to take it up is actress Cameron Diaz who channels the iconic blonde look for the newest issue of V Magazine, out on newsstands tomorrow.

However, even if Cameron too sports the by-now legendary cone bra that got Madonna so much criticism throughout the years, she also adds a personal touch to the look with several sailor fake tattoos. In doing so, several US publications and e-zines point out, she actually manages to surpass the original, by bringing more edge to the iconic look, even if many believed that would no longer be possible after Madonna was done with it.

Speaking with the magazine, the actress, who has often spoken out about her image and why she doesn’t feel pressured into looking a certain way just to please the public and the media, underlines the importance for a woman to constantly reinvent herself. “I’m not going to be the 23-year old ingenue again. If I tried to hold onto that, I’d be a pretty unhappy individual.” Diaz tells V Magazine as to how she has learned to cope with the passing of the years and the changes it brings about.

Since we’re on the topic of changes and body-image, we might as well note that Cameron Diaz was never a female celebrity like any other, in the sense that she has so far refused to succumb to pressure, choosing to be herself instead. In another relatively recent interview, the actress was saying that she had learned to love her body no matter what others said of it – and especially the tabloid media, which is always picking on faults and pointing them out to the public as if they were something extraordinary.

In the same interview, Diaz also revealed she had no problem with being famous, as long as people left her to her own devices, free to live her life as she saw fit. “Every once in a while, you’ll have those moments when people give you the stink eye. And you’re like, ‘What the [expletive] is your problem? What, am I horrific-looking?’ But really what they’re thinking is, Am I seeing who I think I’m seeing? It’s just a shock.’ I don’t have any problem with being famous. I’ve completely made peace with being recognizable and people wanting to peek into my life in some way.” the actress was stating at the time.
