Recent Call of Duty games have seen a massive surge of popularity, as they offered a very top-notch first-person-shooter experience but also combined it with an interesting story and rich environments and settings.

The latest iteration in the series, Call of Duty: World At War, while beginning the holiday season with the smallest chances of success, has dominated all charts for quite a while, grossing in a lot of money for its publisher, Activision. It has also seen a lot of online activity as its multiplayer and co-op mode are very solid.

Now, as the first DLC for the game finally arrived a few weeks ago, containing three new multiplayer maps, Nightfire, Station and Knee Deep, and one new map for the very popular Nazi Zombie bonus mode, Verrückt, it has become quite successful, at least according to Activision. The DLC, which was launched on the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store, has racked up over 1 million downloads. The number while very impressive, is only made up of stats followed in the first weekend.

“I’m proud that the team at Treyarch delivered an experience that so many people are enjoying,” said Mark Lamia, studio head for Treyarch. “We’re excited that the success of Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 1 will continue to drive the popularity of the game’s Nazi Zombie mode, competitive multiplayer and chart-breaking success online.”

You can surely bet that the teams at Treyarch and Activision are very happy, as a 10 million dollar profit isn't something small, especially during these troubled financial times. Hopefully, this will mean that more content will arrive soon for this game so we can take our minds off of the next shooter from Activision, Modern Warfare 2.
