Activision publishing boss Eric Hirshberg talked about the company's biggest franchise, the Call of Duty one, emphasizing the core principles of the series that make it such a big success with millions of people all around the world.

One of the biggest titles of the year is going to be, without a doubt, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the new first person shooter coming from developers Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, which is pretty much certain to smash sales records like its predecessors in recent years.

Now, after last weekend's Call of Duty XP convention, Activision's publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg, has talked with Industry Gamers about the four principles of the franchise, including its delivery of epic realism, its ultimate adrenaline rush or the smooth framerate.

First up, Hirshberg emphasized the 'epic realism' of the Call of Duty games, as each of them deliver a lot of mind blowing moments that immerse players into the action on the screen, even if it's not a faithful recreation of present-day warfare.

The second principle is the need to deliver an 'ultimate adrenaline rush,' both through the narrative in the single-player campaign, but also through the multiplayer mode.

The older 'easy to play, hard to master' philosophy is the third principle, as Call of Duty titles need to be easy to get into for any average gamer, but require a lot of dedication and skill if players really want to be good at it, especially in the online mode.

Last but not least, the smooth 60 frames per second framerate is like a "religion" for Activision's internal studios, as all games need to have rock solid gameplay in order to live up to the expectations of the players.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 follows all these principles and Hirshberg believes that it will once again prove the superiority of the franchise in front of other competitors, like the upcoming Battlefield 3.

The new Call of Duty title arrives on November 8 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
