All good things must come to an end, and this clearly applies to Showtime’s dark comedy “Californication” as well. The network has announced that season 7 of the series will also be its last, so keep an eye on Showtime starting with April 2014, which is when new episodes air.

Starring David Duchovny as the foul-mouthed, perverted and almost always drunk author Hank Moody, the series has seen a steady and considerable rise in ratings, so this isn’t just a typical case of “we’re shutting it down before we lose all viewers.”

The Hollywood Reporter confirms the news, noting that season 6 marked the peak for “Californication” in terms of ratings, with 2.9 million viewers across various platforms. With solid ratings in its favor, the decision to end the series means that the time has come for Hank to hang up his shoes and call it a day.

“With its unique blend of lyricism and excess, Californication has been one of our groundbreaking signature series,” David Nevins, Showtime’s president of entertainment, says, adding that the remaining episodes will “neatly wrap up” all the loose ends.

“We will always be indebted to Tom Kapinos for leading the creative charge on this memorable comedy, and to David Duchovny for making us root for an unapologetic hedonist like Hank Moody. Tom has carefully planned the final chapter of Hank's journey and has brought it to a beautiful and satisfying conclusion for new and longtime fans alike,” Nevins adds.

I know I’m not alone in saying Hank Moody & Co. will be terribly missed.
