Chimei Innolux (CMI) has just brought to the spotlight a new 4.3-inch smartphone display, one that can provide users with the ability to enjoy 3D content while on the go without the need of special glasses.

Moreover, the company says that their product can deliver the said feature at 720p HD resolution, the same resolution that some of the latest smartphones on the market can deliver.

The newly unveiled Galaxy Nexus smartphone from Samsung, for example, is one device that boasts a 4.7-inch screen and which delivers a 720p resolution (a Super AMOLED HD display).

Apparently, the new screen puts together a CMI TFT panel that boasts a 1280 x 720 resolution with Cell-Matrix Parallax Barrier technology developed by MasterImage 3D.

For those out of the loop, we should note that MasterImage 3D is the 3D company that received $15m in funding from Samsung back in March.

The new display can provide users with a great viewing experience while on their handsets, although the screen of these devices is so small.

“The technology provides brighter images, reduced moiré effects (or rippled appearance) and the ability to work in any orientation – portrait or landscape” CMI claims.

Although CMI is not the first company that brings to the market a 720p display, they are the first to announce it with glasses-free 3D capabilities.

For the time being, however, no specific info on when the new panel might become available in commercial products emerged.

Smartphones that have 3D rendering capabilities have been already released on the market, but the technology is only in the incipient phase on the mobile market.

However, chances are that the adoption of these devices will increase, and that the newly unveiled screen from CMI will make it on shelves in new smartphones in the near future. Keep an eye on this space to learn more info on the matter.
