Earlier today we talked about Acer’s new budget-friendly smartphone with 4G connectivity and Chromebook with 15.6-inch display and Broadwell architecture under the hood.

At CES 2015 in Las Vegas, Acer has also unveiled the new Aspire V 17 Nitro gaming machinery, which arrives with support for Kinect-like gestures.

Intel's RealSense comes to Acer notebooks

This capacity is bestowed by Intel’s RealSense technology which is embedded in the webcam, so it can sense depth and dimension.

Thanks to the system, users will be able to perform neat tricks such as 3D scanning of objects, gesture controls in mid-air and more. Acer says owners of the new Nitro will be able to play games or access webpages without having to touch the notebook’s keyboard or mouse.

Intel’s RealSense camera utilizes a conventional camera, an infrared one and an infrared laser projector. The device maker highlighted two apps that will support the hands-free action including Warrior Wave (game inspired by Greek mythology) and 3DMe app (3D scan right out of a notebook).

Acer's Aspire V17 Nitro specs

Apart from the Kinect-like technology, the Acer V 17 Nitro arrives with a 17.3-inch IPS full HD display and an Intel Core i7-4710HQ quad-core processor under the hood.

The V 17 Nitro utilizes the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M GPU, 4GB DDR5 VRAM and up to 16GB of memory. NVIDIA’s has outed the GeForce GTX 970M and 980M graphics cards, so there’s room for improvement in this department.

Acer also throws in 128GB / 256GB of solid state drive, up to 1TB of hard disk storage and support for 802.11ac and 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies via dual wireless antennas.

The Ace Aspire V 17 Nitro will hit retail locations in January, but pricing specifications haven’t been announced just yet. The Aspire V 17 Nitro Black that started selling in November was sold for $1,499 / €1,256.
