For those that rightly feel OLED is still overpriced, this will tidy them over

LG is among the companies with the largest product exhibitions at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014, taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, and among its products is an 84-inch LCD UHD TV.

Truth be told, as one of the premier South Korean tech giants, LG makes a point of securing large booths and halls at all trade shows it attends.

Sometimes it backfires when the show is grander than the products put on displays, but other times it works just fine.

We'll leave it to those visiting CES to vote on which fits this year. We are more concerned with the products themselves.

Displays are a primary focus as always, and after seeing the WebOS Smart TV and the 105-Inch Curved Ultra-Wide model, we are ready for one that won't depress people because of the price tag.

And LG has just the thing: an 84-inch 4K UHD TV, meaning it has a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.

Here, some could rightly argue that there is nothing cheap or affordable about an 84-inch UHD TV, and we would be unable to say otherwise with the price and ETA still unknown.

But compared to OLED technology and the much larger behemoths of 105 or 110 inches, some of which cost $100,000 / €100,000 or more ($150,000 / €150,000 is really famous right now), this one will seem cheap by comparison.

Sure, only the rich will be able to afford it, but that's a given. After all, only people with rooms large enough to fit the thing will actually think of buying it.

For those who want to know the specifications, LG gave the product the “Tru-ULTRA HD Engine Pro” chip, which can upscale SD, HD, and “True HD” content (1080p is that last one) to 4K. It won't be the same as video actually recorded in 4K, but it will do in a pinch.

Finally, the 85-inch LCD supports h.264 and the fresh HEVC format and boasts HDMI 2.0, USB, and LAN.
