Dark Millenium Online, the Warhammer 40,000 based MMO, has seen a flurry of speculation lately and now a leading executive at THQ has said that the company is keeping its options open when it comes to the business model for the game.

Speaking to Shacknews Danny Bilson, who is the leader of the core games division at publisher THQ, has stated, “We have a lot of different models about how it can be monetized.”

The executive also responded to recent statements from John Smedley, who is the leader of Sony Online Entertainment, who said that Star Wars: The Old Republic, which will arrive this December, will be the last MMO to use a subscription based system.

He said, “What I’m seeing from Dark Millennium Online’s development is that it’s extremely premium. But, really, the whole online culture may shift and may be right. He may be wrong. Is set up for all kinds of monetization. We’re going to move it into whatever makes the most sense for its launch.”

Sources recently announced that Dark Millenium Online would be launched during the month of March 2013 but since then THQ has denied the date and said that only now is the development team talking about when the game would be launched and what will be revealed about it in the coming months.

The MMO will be created by Vigil Games, who is also working on Darksiders 2, a 2012 launch title.

Dark Millenium Online is set to combine ranged firefights with close quarters combat and all the races in the Games Workshop created universe will appear in the game, although until now only the Imperium and the Orks have been confirmed as being playable.

The most recent Warhammer 40,000 release was Space Marine, the mix between third person melee and ranged shooter that was created by Relic.
