People Can Fly, Epic Games and Electronic Arts have announced that all the rumors are true and that they are indeed working on a new first person shooter called Bulletstorm, which they aim to launch at some point in 2011. The three companies are planning to remake the genre by putting together a game relying on “kill with skill” gameplay and delivers an adrenaline boost to all players. The plan is to launch it for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC.

The story of Bulletstorm is based around two mercenaries, named Grayson Hunt and Ishi Sato. The two have been working for Dead Echo, the force that protects the government of this future setting.

A series of events shows the two that they might be working for the wrong side and their commander then exiles them on a failing paradise, where both mutants and “flesh eating” gangs threaten their survival. The two plan to get off the planet and, of course, revenge those who have wronged them.

The gameplay is built around a system called “skillshot.” The idea is that players will attempt insane moves and kills in the game and the more outrageous the move is, the more points the players will get in order to spend on upgrades for their characters and on weapon unlocks. People Can Fly and Epic Games are promising huge weapons and over the top action for Bulletstorm but they say it will also deliver tough challenges for experienced first person shooter players.

Michael Capps, who is the president of Epic Games, stated that “Bulletstorm is the kind of game we love to make because it's pure, unadulterated entertainment. People Can Fly has created a wildly fun first-person shooter that looks gorgeous running on the latest Unreal Engine 3 technology, and the skillshot system is a welcome addition to the genre. We can’t wait to see how everyone reacts to seeing Bulletstorm.”
