Since end-users are getting more and more used to having their data with them at all times, it is no longer a surprise to find out that a certain storage solutions developer has come up with yet another portable HDD, USB flash drive or solid state drive. Buffalo has already unveiled the high-capacity HD-PX1.0TU2-BK, which should start selling before the month is out. However, it seems that just this model will not be enough, which is why the same company is reportedly planning on unleashing another storage unit of the same capacity at around the same time.

The upcoming portable hard disk drive will be known as HD-PEB1.0TU2-BK and will have a total capacity of 1TB, just like the HD-PXU2. The similarities continue as it is revealed that the HD-PEB1 is designed for the same USB 2.0 interface (thus having a maximum speed of 480Mbps) and comes with a sleek, glossy black coating meant to add the obligatory amount of aesthetic value that all portable devices require. Unlike its sibling, however, this new model will be more compact, measuring only 84 (W) x 19 (H) x 134 (D) mm (compared to 90 x 20 x 134 mm), even though it will have the same overall weight of 240 grams.

An issue frequently brought up when it comes to portable storage devices is data security and this 1TB drive is no exception. Since such a high-capacity drive is bound to carry large files and, perhaps, sensitive data, it is pre-loaded with the Secure Mobile software, which provides 128-bit AES encryption. Finally, the platter-using storage unit features the ECO Manager, which can lead to power savings of up to 20%.

Priced at $253 ($20 less than the HD-PXU2), the Buffalo HD-PEB1.0TU2-BK should reach Japanese stores next week. It will best serve consumers more interested in mobility than endurance, whereas its sibling will likely become the first choice of those more concerned with their product's lifespan.
