With Google TV out and away there's no denying the fact the Boxee Box has quite some competition in front of it, but D-Link is not going to give up without a fight and announced during the US and Canada launch event the two streaming big dogs are prepared to jump on board.

These streaming services will add to an already impressive list of content providers, as the Boxee Box supports a wide range of premium on-demand digital content services such as Vudu, Pandora or MLB TV to name just a few, while also coming with home networking support, allowing its users to stream media files from computers and other network attached devices.

According to D-Link, more than 40,000 TV episodes are also available for viewing, so the available content list is pretty big from the get go, but Boxee still needs all the help it can get since competing with the Google TV platform is not an easy thing to do.

However, with Hulu and Netflix on board things are definitely going to get easier for the Boxee Box, especially if D-Link manages to get Netflix support out the door by the year's end, as every single sign seems to point out, the company even picturing a remote with a Netflix button during the launch.

If things are pretty much clear when it comes down to Netflix, Hulu Plus support is a different matter all together since its timetable seems a bit more sketchy, talks being in their beginning stages although Boxee officials are pretty confident that Hulu Plus will come on board sooner rather than later.

With that in mind I think the Boxee Box will do just fine in its fight with Google TV, but as both of these solutions are still in their early days is still unclear who will emerge as the winner.

Until this becomes obvious, we can only rejoice about all the options available to us as competition will surely push the price tags down and the features list up, and who can argue with that. (via TewakTown)
