The Kickstarter funded Leisure Suit Larry reboot will aim to restore the reputation of the adventure games series after its image was heavily affected by the quality of the recent Box Office Bust and Magna Cum Laudae.

Al Lowe, who is the original creator of the Leisure Suit Larry concept, told Joystiq that, “To a certain extent those two games have poisoned the well. There’s a lot of people who know those games and don’t know the old games who are gonna go, ‘Yeah those games sucked! I’m not gonna support this new project!’ … and that’s sad.

“On the other hand, I think we’re going to be able to convince people that, ‘Yeah, try this, you’ll laugh your ass off. Yeah it’s sexy, but it’s funny too’.”

The series creator also talked about the development process for Magna Cum Laude and his initial desire to work on the game, saying, “Towards the end they came to me and said, ‘This game needs help.’ I said, ‘Well, maybe, what are we talking about?’

“Well first you’ve got to sign a non-disclosure agreement, then you have to sign a contract that says you will only say good things about the game, and for that we’ll give you some money’.”

The problems with the two previous Leisure Suit Larry titles meant that Lowe and his company, Replay Games, were unable to get the funds needed to create a new experience starring the lovable loser.

The solution was to appeal to the fans of the character via crowd-funding solution Kickstarter in order to get the money they need to create Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards Reloaded and to even add new content to the updated experience.

The game is slated to appear on the PC and on iOS devices during 2013.
