Actress shows off her enviable figure in surf-themed photospread

Hamish Bowles of Vogue magazine was sent to surf camp for the feature included in the June 2010 issue, the one that also includes a stunning portrait of one of the most hyped young female stars of the moment: Blake Lively of “Gossip Girl.” The actress took part in a very breezy and summery photoshoot centered on surfing, but also opened up about her secret training for her newly toned figure.

As we were also telling you a short while back, fans will be able to catch Lively in the upcoming action flick “Green Lantern,” which also stars heartthrob Ryan Reynolds. She plays the villainess Star Sapphire, therefore she had to get in top shape for the part – and this meant heavy training to increase strength and boost the core. She also worked with a stunt coordinator, who helped her get some of the stunts in the film right by having her suspended in mid-air in the same rig created for “The Matrix.”

“All I want is to be a hero to my nephews and nieces. I’m going to be the coolest aunt ever,” Blake says of her motivation behind getting in shape for the part. “Our director likes it real – the fights close and dirty. I;m 40 feet in the air, spiraling around. That’s the best workout you can ever do because it’s all core. You do that for ten minutes and you should see your body the next day! It’s so exhilarating, so thrilling – and nauseating,” the actress explains of how her workouts on the set felt.

Gymnastic acrobats from the prestigious Cirque du Soleil were also brought on board to add a touch more of veracity to the action sequences, so one can only imagine how trying they must have been for Blake whose athletic performances until now only included being able to run in high heels while also dodging passers-by. Her personal trainer also confirmed for Us Magazine that, indeed, for “Green Lantern,” Blake had to put in extra effort, as we also informed you at the time.

“‘She always looks good,’ [personal trainer Bobby] Strom told Us of the Gossip Girl star, 22. ‘But she has to do stunts, so we’re focusing on core and strength training.’ Her workout routine includes four-day-a-week, 90-minute circuit training sessions full of planks, pushups and walking lunges in a gym near the film’s (out June 2011) New Orleans set. ‘She looked at her stomach and said, “I have abs!”’ Strom tells Us,” the mag wrote in a piece dated earlier this month. Safe to say, her enviable figure is on full display in the latest issue of Vogue: for more on this, please refer here.
