On Friday, Canadian mobile-phone maker Research In Motion and Digital China Holdings Limited (Digital China) announced the launch of the BlackBerry Curve 8910 smartphone on the market in China. The new device is already available for purchase via Digital China’s nationwide retail distribution network, the two companies announce.

“We are very pleased to launch the BlackBerry Curve 8910 smartphone with Digital China across their nationwide retail distribution network,” Gregory Shea, managing director, China at Research In Motion, said. “The new BlackBerry Curve 8910 offers the industry leading communications features that have popularized BlackBerry smartphones around the globe. We believe the powerful and easy-to-use BlackBerry Curve 8910 will help convince many more people in China to give up their traditional cell phone and upgrade to a BlackBerry smartphone.”

The new BlackBerry Curve 8910 smartphone comes with a wide range of multimedia capabilities, while also offering users the possibility to stay connected and productive at all times. The specifications list of the device includes a 512 MHz processor, a 2.4-inch HVGA+ display, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, a built-in GPS receiver, a full-QWERTY keyboard, a 3.2-megapixel camera with variable zoom, auto focus, and flash, and a 3.5 mm stereo headset jack.

The mobile phone measures 109 x 60 x 13.5 millimeters and weighs in at 110 grams. It comes with a microSD/SDHC expandable memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, dedicated volume controls, Bluetooth stereo audio profile (A2DP/AVRCP), and with options to edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files directly on the smartphone, courtesy of DataViz' Documents to Go software suite. GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz connectivity is also included in the package, making the BlackBerry Curve 8910 a world phone.
