BlackBerry Bold 9900, the first handset that the Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion unveiled to the world with the new BlackBerry OS 7 on board, is expected to arrive on shelves in the UK as soon as next month, earlier than previously rumored.

The handset was said only recently to be slated for a September launch in the country, but it seems that it might actually be released there before mid-August.

Previously spotted at Amazon UK with a September 15th release date attached to it, the new device is now listed at another retailer in the country, Play.com, with an August 12th launch day.

The company put the black version of the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone on its website, and asks no less than £519.99 for it, less than what Amazon wants for it, namely £549.99.

In other words, those who have long been waiting for the high-end BlackBerry smartphone to make an appearance on shelves might be able to purchase it much sooner than expected, and also cheaper than previously reported.

However, nothing was officially confirmed on the matter, and it might not be too long before another release date for the new BlackBerry Bold device is unveiled some suggest, so take this with a grain of salt for the time being.

The one thing that is certain, however, is that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone is one of the most appealing handsets that RIM launched in a long time.

It comes with the classic Bold form factor, but pairs the usual QWERTY keyboard with a touchscreen display, and also adds a fast application processor into the mix, namely a 1.2Ghz chip.

“The high-performance BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone features a stunning and iconic design that integrates an incredibly easy-to-use BlackBerry keyboard with a brilliant, high resolution, capacitive touch screen,” the UK retailer notes.

The mobile phone also comes with a 5.0 MP camera with support for 720p HD video recording, as well as with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, built-in GPS / aGPS, 8 GB on-board memory, microSD memory card slot, and a 1230 mAh removable, rechargeable battery.
