Ken Levine likes to tease people

BioShock was one of the biggest games of 2007, managing to gain critical acclaim for its complex story, unique twists and intricate gameplay, following the path of the System Shock franchise. The man behind the game, Ken Levine, and his 2K Boston studio, passed the franchise to the 2K Marin team and are now working on a new title.

As the Game Developers Conference has already started, Levine saw fit to tease people some more about the project currently developed by his team, and hype up the fact that they were hiring new developers in order to work on this project. He went on to say that it was something completely new for the team from all perspectives, and that, sadly, we wouldn't hear anything concrete about it anytime soon.

“2K Boston is focused on our next project, which will probably come as a huge surprise to our audience and yet at the same time will make total sense once they see it. I will say that we're clicking on all cylinders. Besides delivering on the narrative experience we're known for, it will include a type of gameplay that is completely new to us – something the BioShock team has never really explored in depth before. In all areas (art, design, and programming), we spend half our day being totally psyched, and half our day wondering what we've gotten ourselves into. We're kind of humbled by the challenge. In the end, our new project is something we're champing at the bit to talk about. But we're not showing it to anybody and won't be for some time. In fact, the only way to get a look at it is to interview for a job with us.”

Up until now there have been a lot of speculations about this project, as some job offerings at the studio required experienced MMO developers in order to create an online game. We will just have to wait and see if this rumor actually comes true, and what exactly this future game will be all about.
