Coming this year

Bethesda has managed to get quite a bit of attention lately. Fallout 3, the first game in the long running franchise that the company has developed, has been praised by critics and has been commercially successful. The three downloadable content packs that it has released for the game have been solid, even if plagued by some technical issues, initially.

The studio has announced that Obsidian is developing an alternate story, called Fallout: New Vegas, and there are also rumors that more DLC might be planned for the future.

It also seems that Fallout, or maybe The Elder Scrolls, might be making a move to the Nintendo Wii. Sean Brennan, who is the managing director for Europe, talked to GamesIndustry.biz and told it that Bethesda might see a future on the Wii market. He said, “Is there space in the Wii market for that? I think there is, but again, it'[s] all about finding out how big that is. Is it 5 percent? If it's five per cent of the market and you can own that space it's worth doing because you can achieve volume.”

The company is not interested in creating an alternate game brand (Brennan suggests “My Girly Game Range”) for the Nintendo home console so it will presumably take one of the existing and powerful franchises, like The Elder Scrolls or Fallout, and create content anchored in it but also accessible enough for the players who own Wiis.

Brennan stated that “We are going to make an announcement on a really big Wii game this year, we've got a couple of other things in the pipeline, and it's a format we're really looking at with the right approach.”

Given the fact that E3 is quickly coming up, Bethesda might use that venue for its announcements.
