Retailers' orders show an 80% demand for the 60GB model. Just 20% for the 20GB PS3.

The 20GB PS3 is something soon to be forgotten. Most Retailers are asking only for the 60GB model. Few of them still have faith in the 20GB PS3. Retail orders show an 80% demand for the PS3 and a 20% one for the 20GB model. Some retailers have even let go of the 20GB PS3 for good. It is the case with Best Buy. When Joistiq spoke with Sony's David Karraker earlier this week, the company spokesman said: "Overwhelmingly, retailers have been requesting the 60GB model, the mix has been about 80 percent 60GB, 20 percent 20GB retailer orders."

Sony has lost yet another big retailer's support, regarding their 20GB systems. Why do you think this is happening? The price is too big for the 20 GB model as well and people tend to make wiser decisions when acquiring something as expensive as Sony's entertainment system. So, if you're going to pay 600 and something euros for the PS3 when it launches in Europe, you might as well get the one with a bigger disk space, for almost the same price.

Still, if you thought that Sony will no longer produce the 20 GB model just because Best Buy doesn't want it anymore, you're mistaking. The company still has faith in it. But why? Why would they still produce a system that nobody wants? I mean, figures don't lie. The demand is 20%, if not less, for the 20GB PS3 and 80% for the 60GB one. Sony surely has something in mind for it, if they're not letting it go. Maybe we're in for a price drop soon. Yeah, like Sony would do that for us.
