Warner Bros. confirms Christian Bale replacement who will star opposite Henry Cavill

Since San Diego Comic-Con 2013, where director Zack Snyder announced that the “Man of Steel” sequel would be “Batman vs. Superman,” there’s been a lot of speculation on which actor would replace Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader.

Some even said hoped that Bale would reprise the role, if only for this one time and despite the fact that he repeatedly said that he was done with the character – unless writer / director Chris Nolan also returned to the franchise.

Variety has confirmation of the actor that will replace him – and we could bet good money that it’s not who you think it is.

Ben Affleck is the new Batman.

“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” WB president Greg Silverman says in a statement.

So Affleck, who’s made a solid comeback into the spotlight and the hearts of film critics in recent years, will be facing off the new Superman, Henry Cavill.

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman,” director Snyder says in the same statement.

“He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him,” Snyder adds.

While Affleck’s fans are thrilled at the announcement, there are also those who say that he’s the worst choice for the character, especially considering that he will have to fill a pair of very large shoes, Bale’s.

Just thinking of his Daredevil is enough to make one cringe. This best sums up many fans’ reaction to the news.

We’ll see if this is just the shock talking or not. Keep an eye on this space for more.
