Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has already started to deliver the BlackBerry OS 5.0 to its older phones, and BlackBerry Bold 9000 is the latest of them to receive the update. The new flavor of the operating system, namely OS 5.0.0.411, is now available for download from the company's website, just that it is only meant for Bell Mobility customers.

Those Bell users who would like to try out the new software solution for their BlackBerry Bold 9000 devices will find it available for download on RIM's website here. According to the handset vendor, the software solution comes as the BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.661, weighs in at 118.43MB and includes the Software Platform: 5.2.0.33 and Applications: 5.0.0.411.

The new firmware update follows the previously released OS 4.6.0.303 for Bell's users, and should bring in a wide range of new features, one might already know. Users interested in performing the update will be able to find the Software Platform and Applications version numbers present on their handsets under Options-About screen.

According to RIM, those interested in the update need to “download both the desktop and handheld software to a temporary location” on their computer, after which they will have to install the desktop software on their computers, followed by the handheld software. “The handheld software will update the software on your BlackBerry Wireless Handheld,” RIM also notes.

At the same time, one should take into consideration the performing of a backup of all data on the handset before proceeding with the update. Even if all files and folders might survive the update, there is also the chance that they are wiped off, and a backup will ensure that no important information is lost after the process is completed.

In related news, we learn as well that users of a BlackBerry Tour 9630 can now try out a new firmware version on their handsets. The new OS 5.0.0.419 is already available for download on various websites around, as BlackBerry Cool notes; yet, it is a leaked software solution, and there are no certainties here. The leaked update is expected to come with performance improvements, but no exact details on what it includes are available for now.
